Our eyes let us express ourselves, see everything around us, and connect with the greater world. Eyelids that droop with age can affect your vision and make you appear tired and less alert.
Fortunately, a procedure called blepharoplasty can restore your vision and give your eyes a more expressive and youthful appearance.
Learn more from Joshua Goldberg, DO, FACOS, of Goldberg Facial Plastic Surgery in Willow Grove, Pennsylvania, about what blepharoplasty can do for you. During April, Dr. Goldberg is offering a Springtime Special, a 20% discount on blepharoplasty. Here’s what he wants you to know about this popular procedure.
Blepharoplasty is a minor surgical procedure that corrects droopy and sagging eyelids. As people age, the skin and muscles around the eyes weaken, leading to drooping of the upper and lower eyelids.
We can perform the procedure on your lower eyelid, upper eyelid, or both. Blepharoplasty on your upper eyelid can also improve your vision if a sagging upper lid is covering your eye enough to impair your eyesight.
Getting a blepharoplasty can also help improve the appearance of a saggy or dark undereye area and eliminate headaches that may result from excess eyelid sagging.
A blepharoplasty is a straightforward outpatient procedure we perform at our comfortable offices. We can use a combination of local anesthesia and twilight sedation to keep you relaxed, avoiding the side effects of general anesthesia. You go home the same day.
A blepharoplasty is a minimally invasive surgery, meaning you receive only a few tiny incisions to complete the procedure. Minimally invasive surgery has a lower risk of complications and a shorter recovery time than a traditional surgical procedure.
Almost anyone who’s experiencing sagging, drooping, or excess skin and fat in the eyelid area can get a blepharoplasty. Before the procedure, our team consults with you to ensure it meets your goals for restoring your appearance or vision.
Blepharoplasty only corrects the eyelid area, but we can combine it with other procedures if you’d like to change other aspects of your appearance. Our team often combines blepharoplasties with brow lifts and forehead lifts.
Our team begins with a consultation to preview the results you can expect. We provide information on preparing for the procedure to ensure the best possible outcome.
The blepharoplasty itself takes up to two hours, depending on the complexity and amount of work performed. For some procedures, Dr. Goldberg makes one small incision to tighten the skin, muscles, and fat in your eyelid, and to remove excess skin.
In other instances, he uses a small endoscope and a few tiny incisions to complete the work. As soon as you’re cleared and given aftercare instructions, you’re free to go. Before the procedure, line up a family member or friend to drive you home.
Initial recovery from the procedure usually takes 1-2 weeks. Once the bruises and swelling have improved, you can return to most jobs. It can be up to a month before you return to exercise and intensive physical labor.
Once recovery is complete, about a month after the procedure, you can enjoy more youthful-looking eyes and improved vision.
